The blue angel - by Deyse

Some weeks after the angels had revealed themselves to Max, the director of a community access station in South Bend, Indiana, Monica returned to the studio, now unseen to the human eye, to watch the Story Lady airwave, which was back to the TV program.

Now a new actress was portraying the story lady, but, like the original sketch, there were many children sitting on the floor and listening to the stories she was telling them. With a broad smile upon her face, the Irish angel remained there until the filming was finally over, and before she left, Monica took the opportunity to walk around the studio, curious to see the costumes wore by the artists.

When she was finally leaving, Monica saw a little girl sitting on a corner, away from everybody, and with a sad look in her face. Immediately feeling sorry for her, the angel knelt in front of the girl and became visible to her.

“Hullo, sweetheart. Why are you so sad?”

“My mommy is late to get me...” she replied, with a slight hint of fear in her eyes.

“Oh but I’m sure she’ll be here soon, honey.” Monica stroked her cheek with tenderness.

“How do you know?

“Well, because I know you mommy loves you very, very much, and that you’re precious to her!” Monica noticed that her words had had some effect on the girl, who eyed her carefully.

“What’s your name?”

“Monica. And yours?”

“Marie... Are you going to appear on TV too, Monica?”

“No, I’m not...”

“So, what are you doing here?”

“Well... can you keep a little secret?”

“Yes...”

“I’m an angel...”

“An angel?” her little hazel eyes grew wider.

“Yes... and I came to make a short visit to this studio; I’ve been here befor, a long time ago.”

“Oh really? My grandma told me she’s been here too, also a long time ago, and she appeared in the same program I did today: the story lady!”

“Oh that’s nice you’re taking part in this sketch, It’s my favourite one!”

“It’s my favourite too!”

Monica watched as the girl smiled and decided, “Well, since your mommy hasn’t arrived yet, would you like me to make you some company?”

“Could you stay with me?”

“Sure!”

Suddenly, they heard a male voice next to them. “Monica?”

The Irish angel and the little girl saw a tall blond man standing right next to them, “Andrew?”

“Tess asked me to look for you...”

“Oh... I know I was supposed to meet her but I found this wee one here and I offered to stay with her for a while, until her mom arrives.”

Smiling, Andrew nodded his head, knowing that such a kind and warm hearted creature like Monica would never leave that child alone – and that was one more of the thousand reasons why he loved her so much. The blond angel knelt in front of the little girl, “So, you got a new friend, huh?”

“Oh yes. This is Marie. Marie, this is my friend Andrew.”

“Hey Marie... you’re a rather cute lady!”

Pleased to hear that compliment, she smiled, “Thanks! are you an angel too, Andrew?”

He looked at Monica questioningly and she nodded her head. “Well... yes, I’m an angel too.”

“Marie is taking part of the story lady sketch.” The Irish angel explained.

“Oh so we have a future actress here?”

“Well... I don’t know... I wanna be an ice cream seller too!”

The two angels exchanged an amused glance and the girl studied their faces carefully. “Is he your boyfriend, Monica?”

They blushed deeply with that question and, surprisingly, it took them a long time to reply to it. “N-No... Andrew is... well... he’s my friend...” Monica clumsily said.

“Why? Don’t you love her, Andrew?”

“I – I... Well... yes...” he stammered.

“Don’t you love Andrew, Monica?”

“I... Er... of... of course I do, sweetheart...”

“So why can’t you two date?”

“Well... because...”

“We... er...”

The two angels’ embarrassment was evident in their faces, as well as their nervousness, but that didn’t stop the girl from going on, “You guys look like Aladdin and Yasmin! Well... kind of...”

Despite their embarrassment, Monica couldn’t help shooting Andrew a tender look, which he immediately returned and which the talkative girl didn’t miss, “Ah! There it is! You look cute!”

It was then that they heard her mother’s voice inside the studio, “Marie?”

“Mommy!” she spoke, and ran towards the woman. Monica and Andrew watched, now with happy faces, as she wrapped her little arms around her mom’s neck in a tight embrace. But, before she left the studio, Marie looked at the angels one last time. “Bye Monica, bye Andrew. Thanks for staying with me!” she said, waving at them.

“Bye Marie!” Monica replied; she and Andrew also waving at her.

The girl’s mother looked at her and frowned, “Who are you talking to, Marie?”

“To the angels, mommy. They’re right there.” she pointed. The woman looked at the place her daughter indicated, but didn’t see anything, as Monica and Andrew were in their angelic form. But, thinking that they were just some more of her ‘imaginary friends’ she smiled, “Ok, then. Let’s go now?”

After mother and daughter had left, Monica and Andrew looked at each other. “You said Tess was looking for me...” she spoke, still with her previous embarrassment evident.

“Yes... but she’s not in such a hurry, you know. She can wait a bit.” Noticing Monica’s questioning look, he kept on talking. “How about a cup of mocha?”

Her broad smile and bright brown eyes caused his heart to swell with love. “A cup of mocha would be lovely!”

“Good, because I think you and I have something to talk about...” he said, watching as her face blushed once again.

“We do, don’t we?”

“Yes, angel. And it cannot wait any longer...”

Andrew took her hand and kissed it with tenderness, never breaking the eye contact with her.

“I don’t think it can wait either...” she replied, with the same affectionate gaze. The blond angel gave one step closer to her and brushed a loving kiss on her forehead. Then, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders and the two left the studio.

Some days later, Monica and Andrew were both granted a day off and they had decided to go to the cabin and watch a romantic comedy on television. With a contented smile upon her face, she was snuggling close together to him, both sitting in a comfortable chair, with their legs stretched out to the coffee table; a bowl with some popcorn and 3 empty mugs were resting on the same table, and, as the film was over, the blond angel wrapped his arm around her small shoulder and placed a tender kiss on her temple.

“That was beautiful...” she said, turning her head to face him.

Also smiling with tenderness, he stroked her cheek, “I’m glad you liked it... I guess this tv channel has improved the programs since some angels visited it!” he joked, his eyes filled with love for her.

“Yes... and I guess I’ll never forget these visits, especially the second one...” she replied, looking inside his green eyes.

He inched his face closer to hers and rubbed his nose on hers, “I totally agree...” then, his lips touched hers a second later, in a loving, tender kiss.

A few moments later, they pulled away and Andrew started to lay tiny kisses on her face and nose, “I love you... I love you, Monica... God it’s so good to tell you this...”

The little Irish angel looked at him with tenderness and held him tightly, also placing kisses on his face and finally on his lips. “Well, I love hearing... And... well, of course I love you too, Andrew...”

At this moment, they heard the song that introduced the next attraction on that channel: the show they had helped to be saved some time weeks earlier. And the first sketch of the night would be “The story lady”.

“Oh Andrew, look!” Monica pointed to the tv screen when they saw the little Marie in between the children taking part of the program. “Marie is such a cute wee lady!”

“Yes, she sure is! Cute and adorable... Like someone I know...” he made a short pause to kiss her lips and then kept on talking, “And she’s one of the greatest responsible for us being here today...”

“That’s true! Though, if you ask me, this would’ve happened sooner or later, you know...”

“You’re absolutely right, angel. Absolutely right...”

Andrew leaned over and brushed another tender kiss on Monica’s lips and, tightening the hold on each other, both angels snuggled close together in that comfortable sofa to watch the program.
