The root of all evil - by Deyse

After Andrew and Adam had taken the religious man Home, they were  walking in a vast green field, in Heaven, when Adam noticed that the blond angel looked quite worried, “Hey, what’s troubling you, buddy?”

“I’m worried about Monica...”

“Oh, I see...” the angel of death tried to hide a slight smile which was about to form on his mouth but he hid it before Andrew could notice. “It’s her day off, right?” he asked instead.

“Well, I don’t know... when we last met she didn’t tell me she would have a day off...”

“Well, why don’t you go find her? What places does she usually go to when she’s not working?”

A pensive expression appeared on his handsome face, “Hum... well, she likes to visit the forest...”

“Why don’t you try it? It’s day already on that place, you won’t have any trouble finding her.”

“Yes... I’ll do it. You know, I’m so used to her presence now that, whenever we’re not working on the same assignment, I miss her terribly!”

“I would never guess it!” Adam joked, and then glanced at his pocket watch, “I got to go now. See you!”

“Bye, Adam.” Andrew spoke, and, with a mix of sadness for not having Monica by his side and also some worry about where the little Irish angel could be, he went to the lake, hoping to find his dearest friend.

When Andrew got there, disappointment was all that he felt, as the place seemed quiet and desert.

“Oh, Monica... I wish you were here, angel...” he whispered, and tugged his hands in his pockets, walking around on the beautiful scenario.

He gave a few steps closer to the lake and, after he passed by some bushes, something called the blond angel’s attention: a table set with cake, cookies, toasts, pots of sugar, jelly, cream and bottles of milk, tea and, of course, coffee. There were some flowers on a small jar adding extra beauty to the spot. With a totally surprised expression on his face, Andrew ran his fingers through his hair, “But...”

Monica tip toed from behind him and, smiling broadly to see his reaction, she spoke for the first time, “I’m glad you’re finally here!”

The blond angel turned around to face her, “Monica! Angel, where have you been?” he said, also smiling and immediately taking her hands.

“Well, today was a special day and the Father allowed me to take the day off so that I could prepare a little surprise for ya!” but then her face turned into a serious one and she frowned, “You do remember what day it is, don’t ya?” she asked, now with some uncertainty in her voice, fearing that his answer would be a negative one.

Nevertheless, Andrew grinned at her and his face softened. With a tender look in his eyes, he stroked her cheek softly, “Of course I do. Eight years ago we first met, in this same forest.”

Monica’s smile reappeared a second later, along with an extra spark of joy in her eyes, “Yes! And I thought it would be nice if we spent the day together, as I know you’ll have the rest of the day off...”

He stepped closer to her and gently lay both hands on each side of her face, “That’s the most wonderful idea I’ve ever heard!” he finally brushed a loving kiss on her lips.

“I missed you!” The Irish angel said, wrapping her arms around his waist afterwards.

“Me too, angel. Working on an assignment without you doesn’t seem... right. I know that the Father’s plan is perfect and that He knew what He was doing when He put me and Adam together but... without you, baby, it seems that a part of me is missing.” Andrew spoke, also holding her tightly in his arms and kissing the top of her head. “And, in fact, I missed spending some quality time with my Angel Girl, you know. Only you and me, sweetie!”

“Me too... I hope you like the little surprise I made you...” she said, sighing with his loving words and turning to face the table, “Tess helped me to prepare the food, you know. And Adam brought the table and chairs.”

“So they already knew it!”

“I talked to them and they promised not to tell a word about it!”

Andrew gazed at her again, with all his affection evident in his eyes, “I love you so much!”

“I love you too, Andrew.”

“Happy anniversary, angel.”

“Happy anniversary, Andrew!”

He wrapped his arms around her waist and their faces inched closer, their lips met once again and they shared another long loving kiss.

The two angels sat by the table and savoured the delicious meal so carefully prepared. Then, they spent the rest of the day in each other’s arms, talking and kissing in that beautiful part of the forest.
